Mistfall Hunter Build — 6 Class Build Paths

Mistfall Hunter Build — 6 Class Build Paths

Mistfall Hunter's launch build ships six class build paths, one per class. Each class carries two weapon stances, and your build is essentially the answer to "which weapon pair do I main, and which talents and affixes do I stack?" This page summarises the launch-day community build consensus and tells you which class matches which playstyle. Detailed per-class talent and affix priorities live in the dedicated build guides.

How to read the build paths

Each class pairs two weapons, and each weapon has one or two talent branches. Your build path is the combination of (a) your class, (b) which of the two weapons you main, (c) which talent branch you take on that weapon, and (d) your affix priority. Weapons drive your active skills, so swapping weapons mid-fight effectively swaps your build on the fly. That flexibility is the system's core design.

Mercenary — Hammer or Sword & Shield

Mercenary can run Hammer (Charged / Stun) or Sword & Shield. The Hammer path is the official beginner build — close-range tempo, control, frontline disruption, mixed PvE/PvP. The Sword & Shield path adds panic-block value and survivability. Tier-list community guidance: best beginner melee.

Sorcerer — Elemental or Stardust

Sorcerer runs Staff (Elemental / Stardust). Elemental is the default caster path, cycling Fire / Ice / Lightning reactions. Stardust uses Stardust Arcana to bypass chanting for faster casts. Tier-list community guidance: best ranged learning and best area control.

Blackarrow — Archer or Hunter

Blackarrow runs Bow (Archer / Hunter). Archer's Arrow is the burst-and-mobility path — full-draw burst shots and AoE skills like Sky Piercer and Rapid Arrows. Hunter's Arrow is the DoT-and-trap path — status effects (Bleed, Poison, Exhaustion, Stun) from Barbed, Paralysis and Spore Arrows. Tier-list community guidance: best archer and best solo ranged pressure.

Shadowstrix — Daggers or Dual Blades

Shadowstrix runs Daggers (Burst / Shadow Veil) or Dual Blades (Wound Burst / Damage Stacking). The Daggers path is the burst-and-stealth assassin; Dual Blades is the sustained wound-stacking duellist. Tier-list community guidance: best solo rogue, best ambush-and-cleanup.

Seer — Catalyst or Mace

Seer runs Catalyst (Reverent) or Mace (Blasphemer). Catalyst is the dedicated healer with Healing Rune and Healing Art. Mace is the Zeal-and-Curse Mana skirmisher with bonus Super Armor from Ferocity. Tier-list community guidance: best support, mandatory in any party.

Withered Knight — Greatsword or Polearm & Shield

Withered Knight runs Greatsword (Consecutive Break / Delayed Detonation) or Polearm & Shield (Quick / Enhanced Shield Bash). Greatsword is the execute-loop path with the highest melee damage ceiling. Polearm & Shield is the team-utility path with a unique ranged ally rescue. Tier-list community guidance: best trio frontline.

How to choose a build path

Start with the scenario, not the class. If you queue solo and want to climb PvP, Shadowstrix or Blackarrow are the consensus picks. If you queue trio and want to anchor a team, Seer (Reverent) for support or Withered Knight (Greatsword) for frontline. If you are brand new, Mercenary (Hammer) has the lowest skill floor and the highest durability.

Build philosophy summary

Across all six classes the community trackers converge on a few principles. Frontline classes (Mercenary, Withered Knight) win by controlling space and applying debuffs that benefit the team. Ranged classes (Sorcerer, Blackarrow) win by sightline discipline and pre-positioning. Support classes (Seer) win by being in the right place at the right time to heal or shield. Rogue classes (Shadowstrix) win by picking isolated targets and resetting before they are punished. Choosing the right weapon branch within your class lets you lean harder into whichever of these your team needs.

Beginner build philosophy

If you are starting out, the community's beginner-build pattern is consistent across all six classes. Take the lower-difficulty weapon first — Hammer over Sword & Shield on Mercenary, Elemental over Stardust on Sorcerer, Archer's Arrow over Hunter's Arrow on Blackarrow, Daggers over Dual Blades on Shadowstrix, Catalyst over Mace on Seer, Greatsword over Polearm & Shield on Withered Knight. Stack defensive affixes before offensive ones — Tenacious, Bulwark or Stoic come before Valor or Wrath in every published build. Cap your affix levels — most of the breakpoints (Stoic resistance at Lv 5, Valor penetration at Lv 5) only unlock once the affix hits that level, so a half-leveled slot wastes the slot. Use a compatible weapon with one defensive and one flow affix as your entry weapon — the build's power comes from talents and affixes, not the weapon model.

Build depth per path

Some classes have a clearer "best path" than others. Mercenary is split — Hammer is the official beginner build, but Sword & Shield becomes competitive once you have the affix ladder to back up the block timings. Sorcerer has two viable paths: Elemental (default, reaction-cycling) and Stardust (chant bypass for sustained pressure). Blackarrow has two distinct playstyles — Archer's Arrow (burst) and Hunter's Arrow (DoT) — that share skills but reward different affix priorities. Shadowstrix is similar — Daggers (burst) vs Dual Blades (sustained). Seer is the cleanest split — Catalyst (healing) and Mace (skirmisher) play almost like two separate classes. Withered Knight is the cleanest — Greatsword (execute loop) and Polearm & Shield (team utility) share the Wither debuff but resolve very differently in a fight.

How weapon switching works in practice

Because every class carries two stances, you can adapt mid-run without respeccing. A common pattern in community guides: enter an expedition on your AoE stance for trash clear, swap to your single-target stance for boss damage, swap back for the extract push. A Withered Knight may swap from Greatsword to Polearm & Shield when an ally goes down so the ranged rescue is available. A Seer may swap from Catalyst to Mace when a Construct Rune is on cooldown and the Mace Zeal pass is the better trade. The system rewards preparation more than commitment.

What the build directories do not cover

Two things are not in the sources reviewed for this page: the exact set bonuses for end-game armour sets like Mercy + Rosen Oath (Withered Knight), Deathclaw Hunter + Scaleclaw (Blackarrow), or Skullcrusher + Champion (Mercenary Hammer) — these are listed as target sets but the per-piece affixes were not detailed. The launch-day affix database does publish exact Lv 1–7 values for the affixes that build pages name (Stoic, Valor, Tenacious, Wrath, Ranged, Fervid, Aegis, Elusive, Resilience, Strife, Focused, Vitality, Swift, etc.) — see the per-class build pages for the Lv 5 / Lv 7 breakpoints that are actually documented. The post-August-6 patch is now documented per-class on each build page (Blackarrow Steel Arrow impact, Withered Knight Sprinting Slash + Withering Mark energy, Mercenary Sword & Shield auto-block, Sorcerer Stardust Meteor Charm; Seer and Shadowstrix had no documented changes).
